Youth Stewardship: California ReLeaf and ARRA Program

The Greater Los Angeles Area

          Project Funded by:

                    • American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Grant Program
                    • USDA Forest Service

Provided through a landmark legislation signed by President Obama in February 2009, funding is provided with the purpose to create and retain jobs through urban forestry in California.

North East Trees is a recipient of this grant. We are using funding from this grant to:

                   • Educate and train 40 at-risk young adults in the field of urban forestry, including arboriculture, horticulture, and restoration ecology, helping them gain employment in the green industry

                   • Plant and maintain 1,100 native trees in local parks burned in the fires of 2008

                   • Plant 1,550 shade trees on city streets and in government housing facilities in the City of Los Angeles, which are severely lacking green conopy
