Welcome Message from the Executive Director
On behalf of our Staff and Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you to North East Trees. Although we have made some changes to our look, in many respects, we are the same organization that was founded by educator, landscape architect, and community activist, Scott Wilson, nearly 20 years ago. He started with a motto, “More Trees Are Better”. Over 30,000 planted trees later, we remain deeply committed to this goal. However, we have learned how important it is to develop neighborhood and community capacity to nurture or steward newly created, as well as existing, environmental improvements. This is the challenge of our time. Hence, we view our website as an important tool in our quest to “Restore Nature’s Services”.
While trees are a critical element to the success of this quest, the most important resource is you.
Our goal is to create as many opportunities and resources for you to be able to contribute to improving the quality of life in your neighborhoods. Our newly created website will discuss those opportunities in much more detail.
Our Programs include Urban Forestry, Park Development, Watershed Improvements, Youth Environmental Stewardship, and Community Stewardship. All of these Programs are designed to forward our Mission to “Restore Nature’s Services to Improve the Quality of Life in Our Neighborhoods”. We especially look forward to helping residents in the most resource challenged or deprived communities by assisting them with building their own capacity to participate in the creation and stewardship of the environmental improvement projects that together we can implement. The best way to begin this process is by PLANTING A TREE.
This month, in addition to our new website, we have launched two new major initiatives – “Creating Community One Tree at a Time” and “Green Way L.A.” Take some time to familiarize yourself with these exciting opportunities.
We will be updating our Community Calendar at the beginning of each week. If you have an event you would like publicized through our website, please send an e-mail to our Outreach Director, Nidia Garcia. Include the essential information of date, time, place and description and we will do our best to get it posted here.
Each month I will use this space to keep you abreast of happenings within the urban forestry, watershed management, and youth education “communities” here and around the country.
We welcome your participation and investment in our Mission. Your ideas and suggestions are important to us. Feel free to Contact Us by e-mail or by phone.
Thank you.
