What it is

Urban Parks Development plans, designs and builds community, neighborhood and river adjacent parks and trails to restore native habitat and create passive recreation opportunities.

What it Does

North East Trees has implemented over 35 mini-parks, trails, street and access gateway improvements and landscape improvement projects in partnership with a number of state, regional, county and city agencies within the Greater Los Angeles Area.

With a long history of converting under-utilized open space along the Los Angeles River and its tributaries, North East Trees focuses on:

• Converting neglected or under-utilized open space into functional green space
• Developing unused public space along utility corridors
• Converting degraded regional open space to sustainable conservation areas
• Turning paved areas within public schools to environmentally sustainable spaces
• Designing and developing multi-purpose community parks that hold and cleanse storm water
• Reintroducing indigenous native flora, recycling materials, and introducing art in our parks

While much remains to be done towards restoring the ecosystem functionality of local rivers, streams, and associated watershed, there is now recognition among agency stakeholders of the need to design and build more such parks and landscape improvements for the purpose of bringing nature back to the city.
