Programs: Watershed Rehabilitation

What It is

Watershed Rehabilitation plans, designs and implements watershed improvements in order to restore waterways and associated habitat, improve water quality and increase local water supply.

What it does

The watershed rehabilitation program works to protect and restore streams and rivers throughout Los Angeles County - some of the most threatened in the country. Many have been paved over in the interest of new development, lined with concrete to protect against floods, filled with trash, or contaminated by pollutants that flow from streets and parking lots.

The program relies on a three-pronged approach:

Watershed Planning

Comprehensive watershed restoration by:

One of our recent projects is the Arroyo Seco Watershed Management and Restoration Plan which proposes a restoration approach for the 47-square mile Arroyo Seco watershed in north-central Los Angeles County. Click here for Technical Appendices for the plan.

Water Quality Improvement

Design and building of projects that remove pollutants from drainage water before it enters storm drains:

An example is the Oros Green Street Project where North East Trees, in partnership with the City of Los Angeles, installed a natural water quality treatment system as part of a neighborhood beautification project.

Stream Restoration

Restoration of the natural function of remaining creeks and streams by:
