The goal of Flat Top Park Fire Resilience is to increase climate resilience, specifically from the effects of harmful wildfires. Flat Top Park is a 38-acre public park owned, operated, and maintained by North East Trees. We will implement a comprehensive fuel reduction and non-native vegetation management plan for the park, which includes increasing the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), implementing defensible space guidelines, protecting nearby habitable structures and persons against the harmful effects of wildfires, restoring native habitat, and improving the overall ecosystem health of the park through planting of at least 250 locally grown container plants. We will prioritize locally sourced native plants from NET’s youth led native plant nursery and providing jobs skills training for local at-promise youth through the enhancement, restoration and protection of native ecosystems.

Key Project Benefits:

  • Fuel modification on 38 acres of parkland to protect surrounding communities

  • 250 locally grown trees and other container plants

  • Job skills training for youth
