North East Trees Supports LA County’s Youth Climate Commission

Earlier this month, The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to create a Youth Climate Commission (Supervisor Hilda Solis and Sheila Kuehl). North East Trees youth crew member and nursery manager, Diego Zapata, spoke about what this means to him and to North East Trees (see above). More than 2 million Los Angeles County residents are under the age of 18, and many are already mobilizing to demand action on climate change. “Young people, especially young people of color, bear the brunt (of the climate crisis),” Solis said. “We must assure that they have a seat at the table.” The climate crisis is one of the most important and time-sensitive issues that all governments around the world must address, and given the fact that the climate crisis will even more dramatically impact youth, it is very important that we integrate the power and passion of those most at risk from the climate crisis – the youth of LA County.
