With heartfelt warmth and affection, we remember Clare Marter Kenyon, who peacefully passed away on the afternoon of December 7th in Santa Barbara, CA.

Clare's beautiful soul touched countless hearts and left a strong legacy at North East Trees. Her role as an elementary school librarian and her dedicated efforts at North East Trees profoundly enriched the lives of many, especially the young minds she so lovingly nurtured. Her legacy of kindness and passion lives on in all those she inspired.

In addition to her remarkable contributions as an elementary school librarian, Clare Kenyon's legacy extends far beyond the classroom walls. Her tireless dedication and unwavering commitment to the environment and community were exemplified in her extensive service and achievements.

For over a decade, Clare was a vital member of the City of Los Angeles' Community Forest Advisory Committee, where her insights and advocacy played a pivotal role. Her expertise was instrumental in crafting the City of Los Angeles' Protected Tree Ordinance (LAMC 46.00-46.06), a significant stride towards preserving the city's natural heritage. Furthermore, Clare's contributions were crucial in developing the Northeast Los Angeles Hillside Protection Ordinance, safeguarding the region's unique landscape and ecosystems.

Her efforts in preserving open spaces in North East Los Angeles were not just acts of environmental stewardship but also a testament to her deep-seated love for nature and community well-being. Clare's enduring commitment was further reflected in her three decades of dedicated service as a board member at North East Trees. Through these roles, she left an indelible mark on the environment and the hearts and minds of all those fortunate enough to have been touched by her passion and kindness. Her legacy continues to inspire and resonate within the community, embodying the spirit of selfless service and environmental guardianship.
